I am a Trinidadian, born and bred in the sleepy country village of Mayaro on Trinidad's eastern coast. Being a country girl at heart, I have been involved in cooking and baking from an early age. I initially began as my grandmother's and aunt's assistant and when I moved to London at the age of nine (as the eldest of five children) I continued with this trend.
I created Tantie Lorraine's Cakes in 1999 and I specialise in traditional Caribbean fruitcakes. I was encouraged to start a business by friends and family for whom I had been baking cakes for many years. I now run Tantie Lorraine’s Cakes part time from my home in Mitcham Surrey UK.
My fruitcake recipes are tried and tested from generation to generation and are a combination of my truly Caribbean heritage - Martinique, Barbados, Tobago, Grenada and finally Trinidad. My contribution to this legacy is to give a modern twist to these traditional cakes and create Tantie Lorraine's Caribbean Rich Fruit Cakes.
I believe that no other fruitcakes taste like mine, and I take great pleasure in presenting them to you. ….But don't take my word for it -why don't you book an appointment to discuss your ideas and taste my cakes for yourself…
I look forward to meeting you soon.
Lorraine
PS: I make other cakes as well!!!
